Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program

Post Doctoral Research Fellowships (PDRF)

Background

The Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program is celebrating 50 years! Since the plan’s inception in 1959, the Government of Canada has provided scholarships of excellence to all member countries of the Commonwealth. Canada also played a leadership role in the establishment of the international Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan and is the largest contributor to this program after the United Kingdom.

The Canadian Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Program (PDRF) is designed to provide opportunities to promising recent doctoral graduates to conduct their research in Canada. The Government wishes to support research that clearly advances the scholar's own career and that is useful to Canada or to the research team with which the scholar proposes to work.

Description

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Program (PDRF) provides one year of support to promising recent doctoral graduates in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and engineering from eligible countries to conduct research at recognized Canadian public universities and affiliated research institutes. Fellowships are not offered to professional artists or to those wishing to do clinical research and training involving patient care. Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously studied in Canada under a Canadian government scholarship.

Role of Canadian Institution

Canadian institutions wishing to receive an international post-doctoral fellow should advise prospective applicants of this opportunity.

The institution will also be requested to provide an official letter of invitation indicating who will supervise the Fellow’s work as this letter must be included in the applicant’s submission to the Canadian Embassy or High Commission in their home country.
